The following items are covered by the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme and can be recycled FREE of charge:

Server Equipment                             Rackmount Server Equipment, SAN Storages/Arrays, diserver equipment & accessories

Network Equipment                         Switches, routers, modems, POE equipment, cabling & accessories

Print Technology                               Printers, MFCs, photocopiers, scanners, faxes and multifunction devices

Computer Peripherals                     Cables, accessories and peripherals associated with any of the above items (keyboards, mouse, USB devices, etc.)

Doesn’t it cost money to recycle electronics properly?

Fortunately, not any more! The majority of electronics and computer related items can now be recycled free of charge.

This is possible due to the establishment of 2 important changes:

The Product Stewardship Act:

• Introduces legislative requirements for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and Importers of new electronics.
• These companies are now required pay for a % of the collection & recycling costs for the equipment that they bring into the country when it reaches End of Life and becomes “e-waste”.
• Includes enforceable provisions for liable parties.

The National Televisions and Computer Recycling Scheme (NTCRS):

• Established in 2011
• Provides a way for OEM’s and Importers to meet their obligations under the Product Stewarship Act.
• Provides free recycling to the public for Approved Items
• Obtaining funding from the OEM’s & Importers to cover the collection and recycling costs of these approved items.
• Pays Accredited Recyclers to recycle the e-waste that they receive in accordance with industry standards and environmental regulations.

All types of electronics can now be safely recycled in accordance with proper safety and environmental regulations, however currently the Recycling Scheme only covers the recycling costs of televisions and computer related equipment. Items that are not yet covered by the scheme are known as “Bycatch” and these items will generally incur fees to recycle correctly.

In time we expect to see the scope of the scheme widen to cover additional product categories, however until this occurs the following items still incur costs to recycle correctly:
