Total Green Recycling is excited to announce it is one of the nine recipients of the New Industries Fund grant initiative. The $16.7 million New Industries fund was established to fuel innovation. Which in turn would grow new industries and create new jobs. It has awarded $1m to a variety of innovative projects in the recycling industry aimed at diverting 1000 tonnes of e-waste from landfill annually.
Total Green Recycling is using this grant to build a Mobile Re-use and Data Destruction Centre. They’ll be converting a sea container into a mobile centre. This initiative will allow Total Green Recycling to offer easily accessible data destruction and re-use options to those living in the Perth Metro Area.
One of the barriers to recycling electronics is driven by the uncertainty associated with how their data is managed. As a result many electronics either end up in landfill, kept in peoples homes for years until they become obsolete and no longer have a second useful life, or destroyed when they could be re-used. This project removes that barrier. People can see how their data is destroyed, and learn more about the process as it happens. They’ll feel safer to send their electronic waste to recycling and re-use centres in the future. It will also catch working items before they become waste. Re-use is after all, the more environmentally friendly option when compared to recycling.
We’re very excited about this project. We’re working hard to get it up and running later this year and are actively seeking Council partners to deploy this container at their collection events. If you’d like to be involved please reach out to louise@totalgreenrecycling.com.au.
